DRAMA - a method of teaching and learning by means of drama techniques

Drama workshops are organised since 1986 by the Polish Centre of the International Association of Theatres for Children and Young People ASSITEJ under the leadership of Halina Machulska Drama - or theatrical techniques in the process of education - is a method of teaching, in which role-playing, improvisation and a wide range of means and theatrical strategies are used by teachers in teaching subjects at schools and in preparing children for their social roles and for working in a theatre group.The high educational importance of this method has been proven by a three-year scientific study initiated by the Polish Centre of the ASSITEJ and conducted in primary and secondary schools by Professor Jerzy Trzebiński and his team. The results of the research have shown extremely strong influence of DRAMA on the development of the creative and productive thinking of children, ability to refer to personal experiences and to process them, ability to raise problems or issues and to solve them creatively, social and emotional intelligence of children and their integration in groups.The Polish Centre of the ASSITEJ has been given formal authorisation to organise drama courses (and courses for drama educators) by the Ministry of National Education.
