The Halina and Jan Machulskis’ Acting School at the Polish Centre of International Association of Children and Young People’s Theatre – ASSITEJ

The Acting School at the Polish Centre of ASSITEJ in Warsaw prepares secondary school and college graduates for the profession of performing on stage and before a camera. It has been active since September 1999 and has a 3-year educational cycle. It has been given the authority of a public school and the status of an experimental school, which brings author’s educational programmes into life and develops the personality of the participants. The students participate in summer theatrical and drama camps. Classes are held in the morning and afternoon sessions. Students graduate with the qualifications of actors and theatrical instructors.

The Acting School under the leadership of Halina and Jan Machulski offers an alternative programme of educating professional actors. The aim of the School is to train actors, pedagogues, instructors, who apart from being able to act out roles, would also be qualified to: independently create small performances for children and young people outside the theatre building, give examples of proper behaviour in direct contact with children, and conduct classes using the methods of drama.

The school was created in order to enrich the programme of educating actors – instructors of theatres for children and young people, who could work in unconventional places, for example in community centres, social care homes, orphanages, hospitals and in the open air.
